NBA Finals Preview!

The NBA Finals has finally been all set. The Orlando Magic has completed an upset of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The LA Lakers are already waiting as they have finished their series earlier with the Denver Nuggets. Many have always rooted for a Lebron-kobe showdown in the finals, but Dwight Howard was not up to it as he carried his team in his back making sure to book a ticket to the finals. The finals match up is interesting enough as Orlando dominated the only 2 meetings they had in the regular season, but as everyone knows LA is different team in the post season especially when they have rolled into the finals. How will LA deal a deadly 3-point shooting team? with strong contributions from Mikael Pietrus and Rafe Alston. How do they deal with Dwight Howard in the paint? will Bynum be up for the challenge? Will LA be a sound team? with a strong supporting cast which has been the defining factor that have carried them to Finals.
Can Kobe dominate? with Courtney Lee probably given the assignment to guard him? All this match ups and possible outcomes can only be answered if you watch the NBA Finals!

Meanwhile, there seems to be noise that Jameer Nelson, Oralndo's all-star point guard is nearing a return from injury and might play in the finals against LA. Would this be the x-factor the Magi are looking for to secure the championship? on the other hand could reintroducing Nelson in the finals disrupt their tempo after Rafer Alston has adjusted well in his absence? We can only wait to find out how all of this falls into place when the NBA Finals jump off to Game 1 at the Staples Center on Thursday, June 4 at 9pm ET.

Watch it live!

It's always great watching games live. It gives great excitement and pure entertainment. Having your time in your hands and being able to watch these great games is very satisfying. I had spent some of my time watching some live games and here I continue to tell the excitement so far...

First stop, the NBA. Its now the conference Finals, I'm here to review some of my predictions.

Atlanta Vs. Cleveland: I thought this one was going long but Lebron and the Cavs man handled the Hawks. I got the prediction but the series was a sweep.

Boston Vs. Orlando: I was right with my prediction again but missed how long it took. Hats off for Boston who fought long and hard to push the magic to the limits.

L.A. Vs. Houston: Now I got this one right on the money going down 7 games and in favor of the Lakers. the Rockets put up a solid game against kobe rotating ron-ron and shane to defend him. Even without T-mac and Yao they put up a great series.

Denver Vs. Dallas: I got my prediction right but was off in how many games by just 1.

Now lets look at the Conference Finals Match ups and my predictions:

L.A. Vs. Denver: Game 1 is already over, LA taking an early lead i the series. But I took note how well the nuggets played in this game. melo was just a handful for kobe, but on the flip side kobe who was being defended by a rotation of players from denver still had a great game. LA in 6

Cleveland Vs. Orlando: This series is interesting as it could be a battle of outside shooting guns, both teams are has a good number of outside shooters but it could get down to which star will shine brighter. Can Lebron dominate? I beleive Turkoglu will be a mismatch and can't see anyone on the team who can defend Lebron well. Cleveland in 5

Hot stuff, Cold stuff

I had a long vacation, 7 days to be exact. I applied for a vacation leave of 4 days, a weekend plus a holiday gave me ample time to rest, be with my family and enjoy. I took some time to watch some games, although I might say that I enjoyed a great deal with my T.V. hours i can't say it bode well for my bets. (see last post here)

First stop. The NBA Playoffs, its now the second round and the bad news is none of the teams I bet on won. So it's going to be pay up time! Let's run down the second round, teams I'm rooting for and my predictions.

Atlanta Hawks Vs. Cleveland Cavaliers: The Hawks came out victorious in 7 games against the Heat which means I lost! But I'm actually rooting for the Hawks in this match up. I want to give the new MVP, Lebron James a hard time and make him earn the advancement of his team. The Cavs already won game 1 but I am sure this is going to be a good series as long as Atlanta can adjust their defense. Cavs in 6.

Boston Celtics Vs. Orlando Magic: The Celtics are surely struggling, after slugging it out with Chicago in 7 games, we can't deny the fatigue the team is in. Playing so many overtime periods almost amount another game which if you look at the Magic is well rested and prepared. The Magic already won Game 1 and it's already looking bleak for the defending champs. I say they go out of contention here.Without the enigmatic leader in KG and reliever Leon Powe, and not much help you can get from the bench it sure looks like it's gonna be Magic ins 5.

Los Angeles Lakers Vs. Houston Rockets: I would have love to see the young Blazers here against the Lakers, but as Houston already stuned LA in Game 1 this one get more interesting. It's going to be down the wire, I love the match up of Ron and Kobe. I would love to see this series go the long way just because these teams produce exciting games. Lakers in 7

Denver Nuggets Vs. Dallas Mavericks: I love the new Nuggets! Im sad that I lost 2 bets as Dallas and Denver advanced, but I'm really happy how this team has improved and yet has not really been noticed. They are a force when their bench plays well, sporting rotations in Anthony Carter, Chris "Birdman" Anderson, and Linas Kleiza are having great games which can be directly attributed by the Starting lineups' great performance. They are already up 2 games against Dallas and are quickly becoming popular after being unnoticed even after posting the 2nd best record in the west. Nuggets in 4

The Hitman got Hit!
Hard and so fast that he never knew what happened just before the end of round 2. Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao demolished Ricky Hatton in quick fashion, knocking him out in 2 rounds. I must say I was really disappointed in Hatton, don't get me wrong I believed and rooted for Manny but I was expecting a better fight and not another one-sided mauling. I am not taking any credit away from Hatton, in fact I blame Floyd Mayweather Sr. for his lackluster performance. Roach was all over Pacquiao and surely got everything Manny needs in this fight but Hatton seemed unprepared and stunned of what Manny brought in the ring. Hatton was utterly defenseless, I know Roach would say that he was not surprised but the truth is it was all to easy for Pacman. Hatton was fighting one-dimensionally, was always open for counters and underestimated Manny's deadly power. But that's just the reasons why the fight never lasted long enough. Even if Hatton was prepared and gave a great fight he would still succumbg to Pacquiao in 4 which was my prediction. We can never take away what Manny has accomplished, and how hard and dedicated he was in this fight and all of his fights. Simply said Pacquiao was well prepared, knew what to do and executed everything with pin-point speed, accuracy and power which is why he was a blur to the stunned Hatton.

"Pretty boy" Floyd Mayweather Jr. has come out of retirement to face Juan Manuel Marquez, which certainly looks like a warm up to what will be billed as the fight of the century when he eventually faces Pacquiao. Pacquaio doesn't care much who he faces, he leaves everything up to his promoters, Roach would want the fight to be in the 140 lbs. which Floyd will have to go down and reach just to face Pacman. It's not yet cemented yet its almost inevitable that this fight will be billed after floyd wins over Marquez. The world will be waiting and watching for the one who claims to be the best pound-for-pound fighter.

All Set
The UEFA Champions League Final is all set. As an exhilarating Semi-finals played out to leave just two teams standing vying for the coveted silverware. Manchester United was just brilliant in their second leg against Arsenal. Leading with an away goal into the second leg they quickly leap froged into the lead with Park ji-sung capitalizing on a Gibbs error and lifting it past Almunia only 8 minutes in the contest. Just 3 minutes after leading 2-0 on aggregate Ronaldo made it 3 with a magnificent free kick from 40 meters out flashing it on a 2 man wall and past the surprised Almunia on the near post. Manchester United finished it off by a great Counter-attack and great team work between, Park, Rooney and Ronaldo in the 61st minute with Ronaldo finishing it to lead 4-0 on aggregate. The last notable highlight is how Darren Fletcher got red carded for taking down Fabregas in the penalty area giving Arsenal a consolation with Van Persie taking the penalty. But after the replay was shown it was clear that Fletcher got the ball first with a great tackle and then made contact with Fabregas. There is yet to be heard from If they will appeal for the card to be downgraded as Fletcher will be missing the Finals in Rome if the red card stands.

Chelsea and Barcelona square in their second leg in Stamford bridge after a 0-0 draw in Camp Nou. The Match is tight but Chelsea have the attacking mentality and bombards the Barcelona defense with shots and finally taking the lead with Essien's wonderful volley just outside of the penalty area. Barcelona play tight but could not attack and chances are hard to come by, but Chelsea relentlessly attacks and has so many shots and chances on goal but would never score again. On the other hand Barcelona was still searching for the lone goal that could take them to the finals with the away goals rule. A heroic comeback was staged and in one instant Chelsea's hope of meeting Manchester United in the finals vanished when Andres Ineista curled a shot past Peter Cech in the dying second of extra time.

The finals will be played at the Stadio Olimpico on May 27

Predictions: Manchester United will miss Fletcher but Barcelona is more likely to miss the services of Eric Abidal, Daniel Alves and injury to Marquez.

United for the Champions League!

The Playoffs, Pacquiao and the UCL

This is a great time to be a coach potato and soak up some TV, well if your actually a sports fan. Greats games/fights are on the card for some exciting match ups and sure to be headliners when results come out.

First stop, The 2009 NBA Playoffs. The first round of the playoffs don't usually excite you this much, but this year there are some interesting clashes that are sure to sizzle the court. I have even made bets with my girlfriend (she's a sports fan too!). Lets look at the conferences:

Western Conference:

(1) LA Lakers Vs. (8) Utah Jazz: LA leads series 2-0. I have no doubts in this match up as KObe and the rest of the gang is going to clean up the Jazz who has been slumping lately and missing the service of Okur.

(2) Denver Nuggets Vs. (7) New Orleans Hornets: Denver leads series 2-0 . Now this one looks interesting 'coz you can never write off CP3! Since my girl friend is rooting for Denver we made a bet. I know that the chances of the hornets are slim but having Chris Paul's ability take over games its not impossible. The key for the Hornets to get an upset would be getting Peja to erupt and contribute in the series. Update: Denver just won game 2! :-( it's looking more bleak for the Hornets

(3) San Antonio Spurs Vs. (6) Dallas Mavericks: Series tied 1-1. My girlfriend likes to stick with her teams thus shes with the Mavs. I got a little nervous when the Mavs torched SA in game 1 but after seeing Parker get the Spurs back in the sries in game 2 I'm confident that they will advance even without Manu.

(4) Portland Trailblazers Vs. (5) Houston Rockets: Series tied 1-1. My girlfriend and I agree on this one. We are rooting for the young Blazers not only because we love the players but we also want the Lakers to have a better and more exciting Match up next round. They have managed to tie their season series with the Lakers, winning 2 at home and 2 away.

Eastern Conference

(1) Cleveland Cavaliers Vs. (8)Detroit Pistons: Cavs lead series 2-0. This looks pretty obvious as Detroit is now only a shell of their former championship calibre. Cavs can easily sweep this series.

(2) Boston Celtics Vs. (7) Chicago Bulls: Series tied 1-1. The defending Champs are in a pothole, not having Garnett for the playoffs is a big blow add the injury woes that continue to plague them makes a repeat a lot more hazy. On the other side a young Chicago side is heralded with their newly awarded rookie of the year Derrick Rose, with the addition of Brad Miller and John Salmons in the roster this team has become a contender.

(3) Orlando Magic Vs. (6) Philadelphia 76ers: Series tied 1-1. The 76ers winning game 1 through Andre Igoudala buzzer beating jumper doesn't change my predictions for these series. The Magic has already regain focus and has evened the series. Still it's the magic to advance.

(4) Miami Heat Vs. (5) Atlanta Hawks: Series tied 1-1. The last of the three Match ups that me and my girlfriend had a bet on. I side with the Heat which I beleive is the underdog in the matchup, with very limited offense compared to the tight defense that the hawks bring in everynight the Heat will surely have to crunch out a result. The key for me to win this match up is offensive help for Wade, if he can get his teamates offense going they have a chance to advance.

Now, Lets shift our attention to some real heavy slugfest coming this May. The country is going to be on holiday on May 3 as the Filipinos will watch and support their boxing hero Pacman! Manny Pacquiao is set to face Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton with notable undercard names such as Humberto Soto and james Kirkland. This time the whole card will be worthy of the money of the paying viewers. This is a close fight to call but I will go with Pacman, a combination of power and speed with Freddie Roach as a trainer I always see Manny prepared for battles. Roach is one of the best trainers, he knows what to do in certain fight and will never be caught off guard on the strengths and weaknesses of the opponent. Hatton on the other hand will still be a tough opponent a slugger and a witha bigger frame, he is durable enough to take punishment and still lash out retaliation.

My prediction: Pacman on 4 (KO)

Lastly, one of the most prestigious competitions in European Football is about to reach its climax. The UEFA Champion League is already in its Semifinal stage. Having 3 English teams in the semis sure shows a strong outing for England but Spain's sole remaining representative cannot be taken lightly. Barcelona FC is on a blazing form having a big lead in their domestic league and disposing opponents easily in the Champions league they will be a tough match up for Chelsea FC which is currently in 3rd in the English premiereship. On the other half of the semis, defending champions (domestic and in the UCL) Manchester United FC will be tested by Arsenal FC. A young and determined Arsenal who is hungry for silverware will try to upset Manchester United in the two legged semifinals. Manchester United on the other hand is now aiming for a quintuple after they have lost to Everton in the FA cup.

Predictions: Manchester United Vs. Barcelona in the Finals @ Stadio Olimpico

Fixtures
1st Leg
April 28- Barcelona Vs Chelsea @ Camp Nou
April 29- Manchester United Vs Arsenal @ Old Trafford

2nd Leg
May 5- Barcelona Vs Chelsea @ Stamford Bridge
May 6- Manchester United Vs Arsenal @ The Emirates
